My hero: Julie Doucet

Julie Doucet is one of my artistic heroes. Doucet produced thought-provoking and mind-bending comics in a era of when there were few female comic writers. Her artwork channeled all the nuances of Crumb while her stories were truthful, raw and always the female point of view. One minute her comics showed a 1000 foot woman PMSing and hell-bent destroying a city and the next minute she would show her ill-fated love affair with a crappy boyfriend. For a place to start, pick up my favorite Doucet work – My New York Diary.
