Kern the Planet!

In an effort to keep designers entertained and ever-vigilant through those lazy days of summer, Veer has introduced Kernie, the type monster. You can print out your own copy of Kernie and photograph him at the site of typographical blunders or anywhere that inspires you. Veer will bestow gifts on whoever sends them the most creative photo of Kernie. At the very least, check out the gallery of photos submitted so far. Its sure to entertain.

flensted mobiles

{First image: Shoal of Fish. Next image: Bauhaus Mobile. Image below: Circular Bunnies mobile.}

I stumbled across these mobiles a couple of months ago and I thought they were fun, whimsical and nicely designed. Flensted mobiles are created by a family run business that out of Denmark that has been around since 1954. The mobiles range from abstract to thematic to even a Bauhaus inspired mobile. Check out their wide selection in their online gallery.

Digital Finger

It sounds ruder than it actually is. Suck UK has introduced the Digital Pencil -- a replacement for your finger. It simulates finger pressure on trackpads and touch screens. Probably more sanitary than most fingers anyway. And way less smudgy on an iPhone screen.

The product is not yet available for purchase on the site, so price and useability will have to be assesesed later.

{Oops. Thanks to Madeline for the tip.}

Alexander Girard Blocks

Yet another incredibly design-centric toy. I know these blocks have been available for awhile but they are just too beautiful and well-crafted for me to leave well-enough alone. House Industries is selling these real wood blocks for a steep $100 but each block features iconographic artwork by Alexander Girard as well as fun flirty type on the opposite side.

Toypography

Typography blocks, called Toypography, were designed to teach children the Japanese and English spelling of words. Clever and beautifully crafted. The prefect gift for the little Font Diva .
